As you may notice, there is no option in WooCommerce core to do this; you would require some custom coding or a plugin to achieve it.

Searching, I found that the Product Recommendations extension allows you to offer category based cross sells.

You can use a plugin like Code Snippets to add this snippet without having to edit your PHP code.

thank you. from what i read the second link is for recommending products in the cart page right? not in the product page that i am asking

Yes. The Stackoverflow article contains custom code to display cross-sells on the cart page.
