    nope, did’nt get it actually…

i have here the _excerpt function, but it seems to cut off the end of my posts everywhere. you only ever see the excerpt, even when you click on the title to go to it’s own post page!! any ideas? the link is in the first post if u need to have a look…

Why not use the <more> quicktag button above the text area in the admin panel. Wherever you want to put the “more…” link – insert the <more>

yeah i had that, just wasn’t very good for alot of posts that started off slow, but really built up. it will have to do, thanks anyway!

I am not sure I understand what do you mean by “posts starting off slow and really building up”. How does that relate to uysing or not using the more tag?
BTW, there are other solutions, too, if you want to use the_excerpt on the front page. You just have to create a single.php template that will have the_content template tag instead of the_excerpt and you are redy to go.

I think the poster means that the “good stuff” tends to come later in the post rather than starting off with an editorial “bang”. ??

Using the “more” opposed to the explicit excerpt changes how I start out a post now, bringing the punch and teaser to the beginning of a post rather than leading the reader slowly. It’s an interesting editorial shift in writing. Good exercise in editing and rewriting, too.
