Add Border to Image

Agreed. That and the width and height boxes. Right now it’s only available for those uploaded to the media gallery but is absent if you host an image outside of that (i.e. on Imgur).

who thought we’d find it “more convenient” to putz around looking up the html for adding a border and then adding it manually in the “text” view??

Please bring back the features!

In the old version you click on an image, click advanced settings and voila, you can edit image properties – border, vertical space, horizontal space.

This new update takes us backwards with less control. Not happy.

Not perfect, but works, there’s a plug-in that allows you to adjust an image’s margin and border.

Hopefully a plug-in can be made to add the ability to change the width and height for images hosted outside of WP, but this one is a start and greatly appreciated.

Urgh…. I used the padding heavily. I have some posts with 15 pictures on them and they all use the padding.

This isn’t going to work for me. While the new features are great, they do not outweigh this loss of functionality.

I hope this comes back, or I will be rolling back to 3.8.3.

Might work for you. Still need the option to change-out an image link (that’s already on the page, currently have to delete the image and re-insert) for those who use templates (like myself), but this solves one problem of padding and borders at least.

There will be a plugin that restores the options relatively soon.

Yet ANOTHER Plugin to REPLACE what WordPress Removed? Seriously? WordPress STOP FIXING THINGS THAT ARE NOT BROKEN.

Whats worse is NO Choice when WordPress decides to do an Update and FRYS everyone’s website.

I have OTHER things to do in life then babysit my Website 24/7 in case WordPress gets a wild hair. 3 “Updates” in 2 Weeks? Really?

The 2 security updates were unfortunate. We would have waited on 3.8.3, but we had outright broken 3.8.2 and it was imperative for the many people who wait until a new major release is out for a couple weeks before upgrading.

Also speaking of those updates, auto-updates are for minor releases and that was introduced in 2013 with WordPress 3.7, and has been applied quite a few times since then. Again, the auto updates are only for minor release number updates. So 3.8.1 will update to 3.8.2 but it will not update to 3.9. The major version number release upgrades have to be initiated manually in the WordPress dashboard as always.

The auto updates can be tuned and that includes disabling update emails. In the majority of cases a minor point release should not break anything. It’s really encouraged that users leave the auto updates in place.

We really encourage people to read this post about updates, before disabling, to understand the rational behind them. They really are well tested, and if you find that you have to ‘fix’ your site after every minor update, it’s probably time for an extensive audit of your plugins and themes, as these changes are usually 1-4 files only, and maybe 30 lines of code at any time. We really do keep ’em as lean and mean as possible.

As for the MAJOR update to 3.9? You or your host did that one, and things that were removed were features used by a minority of users. Changing things is a part of progress. TinyMCE 4 was needed in order to be able to adapt to how the web is growing and changing, and that did come at a trade off. The image editor was a struggle with UX/UI and space. But all these things were tested by volunteers before being released, and for the vast majority of users, work just fine.

Thats why there are literally 1000s of complaints about it posted JUST today on web forums Everywhere. Those Poor “Minority of users”

And I REALLY don’t believe ANY “volunteers” tested this. If they had you would have heard them complain. We know of NO ONE that hasn’t used the Borders/Vertical/Horizontal settings Regularly.

And as a Design Firm Owner & Developer I find your incompetent attempt to blame Us “it’s probably time for an extensive audit of your plugins and themes” almost insulting if I didn’t know you are simply trying to cover your own inability to face the facts.

If you wanted WordPress to be a Private Project done YOUR way then YOU should keep it Private. Otherwise you need to find a way to provide what people want. It’s been made AMPLY Clear to you what features people use and Like. Though you do seem to continue Ignoring us.

We set clients up to manage their Own websites which is what WordPress USED to be Perfect for but now you expect all those MAJORITY of people to get plugins to keep replacing features? Or now the MAJORITY of which are Average users are expected to learn HTML just to put a Border on their Photo?

By the way even if there were thousands of complaints on the forums, and by saying that you’re taking those complaints as a good representation of issues people have with core, compare that with how many people use WordPress. You will see the minority clearly. However, I’ve yet to see one thousand complaints on the www.ads-software.com forums about this.

Otherwise you need to find a way to provide what people want. It’s been made AMPLY Clear to you what features people use and Like. Though you do seem to continue Ignoring us.

The thing is WordPress can’t incorporate every thing that people request, and it also has its idea that these options should be handled by plugins in the majority of cases. So the things it does incorporate are on a needs basis, how many people need it, the reason why and the urgency of it all.

You don’t see a groundswell of complaints regarding the changes to images because you keep closing topics. Great way to disregard the issue.

That’s a ridiculous thing to say, the features for editing images were already there and have been for years.

Do you have any idea how disruptive it is for people who use WordPress daily to see features disappear on a whim?

Additionally, don’t you think adding plugins for everything invites a ton of problems.

How can we trust all of these plugin authors with access to our site. Doesn’t this make WordPress less secure??
