• Trying to move comments box to above everyone’s comments, or else people have to scroll all the way down just to leave their thoughts.

I installed a child theme as per the instructions here, found in the guide to move the comments box: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/move-the-comment-form-above-comments/

But I don’t know how/where to put the comments.php – the guide states to add it to the child theme’s folder. Am I supposed to activate the child theme first to access such a folder? And where do I find this folder/what is it called so I can nav to it and dump the aforememtioned conde in?

If I need to activate the child theme first, it will skew my site – if it’s supposed to be an exact replica of my live GP theme, it’s not – some headings are shifted at first glance. Am I supposed to only use the child theme from now on, and adjust it to match my parent theme first?

I am used to just using GP just as it is, without the child.

  • Hi there,

this document explains installing a child theme, it also includes a blank child theme for you to work with and covers the few things that need updating after installing one:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-child-theme/

It is good practice to backup your site first or move the site to a staging server to do these updates.

Once the Child Theme is installed you will need FTP access ( or if your host provides a admin panel with file editing ) to your server to add that comments.php file into the root of your Child Theme Folder.

Besides the logo mentioned in that link you sent, what else may need updates?

Because when I activated my child theme, it skewed my site – if it’s supposed to be an exact replica of my live GP theme, it’s not – some headings are shifted at first glance. Am I supposed to only use the child theme from now on? Because it doesn’t have the same look as the parent theme (currently live).

You also didnt’ answer this: “But I don’t know how/where to put the comments.php – the guide states to add it to the child theme’s folder. That’s likely because of something you’ve added in your child theme.

If you just download one from here and activate it then there shouldn’t be any issues at all:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-child-theme/#installing-a-child-theme

Can you give that a shot first?

that’s where I went, just downloaded one from the help page there and it had my headings skewed to the left, unlike how it was centered in my currently live theme.

There is no option to center the title in the free theme.

Were you using some CSS for it?

If so you will need to re-add that CSS to the child theme.
