    Hello,

I’m looking at ThirstyAffiliate vs PrettyLinks vs BetterLinks, and BetterLinks started to get my heart

Then I started my round 2 of investigation before I choose one of those 3, testing in real conditions

First thing I do is adding custom fields to the affiliate links:

    • URL of the affiliate platform for each link
    • Private notes for each link

But in ACF, there is no post type for BetterLinks!

    Did I miss something?

    Thanks in advance

    Dear @doobeedoo,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your insights for BetterLinks. We appreciate your thorough investigation into finding the best solution for your needs.

Regarding your inquiry about adding custom fields to affiliate links with BetterLinks, it’s important to note that ThirstyAffiliate and PrettyLinks uses WordPress’s default post creation method, which involves creating their own post types (e.g., thirsty-link or pretty-link) for managing shortened URLs.

However, BetterLinks operates differently. Instead of relying on WordPress’s post creation method, we store link data directly into our own database table to generate short URLs. Consequently, BetterLinks does not create posts with a specific post type, which is why it’s not available for selection in the ACF plugin.

The good news is that we’re currently in the process of developing native support for adding custom fields within BetterLinks. Once this feature is implemented, You’ll be able to add custom fields directly within BetterLinks without the need for the ACF plugin.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to enhance BetterLinks and provide you with a seamless experience. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

    Best regards,
    Pial

    Hello Pial,

    Thank you for your answer

Good to know that you are currently developing native support for adding custom fields in BetterLinks

Do you know when this will be available? (I’m asking this because if it’s in more than 1 or 2 weeks, I’ll unfortunately have to choose another solution)

    Best regards

    Hello,

Thank you for the beta version with custom fields!

    Feedback:

    • In “Manage links” admin menu, list view, it’s hard to reach for the “Edit” button on the right + it’s very close to “Visit” and “Delete” – maybe the title of the link could be clickable and lead to edit too? We use the “Edit” feature 100 times more often than “Delete” feature, so the edit icon could be more obvious and easier to reach. The “Delete” icon can even be hidden inside the edit popup, and not on the list
    • When editing a link, not sure if the checkbox “Use custom fields” is useful. I’ll have to click it 100% of the time to toggle them. We can assume if someone adds custom fields, they want to use them
    • In my own use case, I add 2 fields: “URL of the affiliate platform (URL affi)”, and “Private notes”, and:
    • I’d like to be able to display the “URL affi” in the list view columns (and make it clickable) – I was able to do this with ACF on Lasso Simple URLs, not sure if I can find a code to add it here in Better Links? https://imgur.com/a/6cwWvjY
    • “Private notes” is a textarea, not a one-line-field – is it possible to be able to choose the type of the custom fields?
    • It would be better to use WP core post type, why create your own system? This deprives us of all WP options …
    • In the links list, list view, the dropdown “Rows per page” offers the options 10 15 20 25 30 – we expect something like 10-25-50-100-200 instead

    Keep up the good work
    Kind regards

    Hello,

Are custom fields released officially already?

Can we have a featured image for each link directly in the link edit panel (that is not FB/Twitter)?

    Hello again,

Our Custom Field Feature is not released yet, We are still doing some fine-tuning It will be released soon. We will keep you updated.

Regarding your other question, I am assuming you are asking about our Customized Link Preview, Please check this Doc here : https://betterlinks.io/docs/configure-customize-link-preview/

We support all the well known social media outside our list as well.

If you face any issues regarding that, since it’s a Premium feature as per WordPress Forum Guidelines Please contact us Directly from here

    Thanks

    Hello,

Those are still pre-sales questions, not premium support requests

About the featured image: I’m not talking about social media images, but image to display in the website, like a post or page have a featured image

I’d like to use your plugin to manage affiliate links, but also to display info cards of the linked products in the website – for this, each link needs a description and a featured image (and other fields like I wrote above, URL of the affiliate platform for each link, Private notes for each link)

I’m still wondering if something like this, even it’s simple, would be possible with BetterLinks in the near future

    Kind regards

I’m really glad to share some exciting news with you regarding the BetterLinks plugin.

Thanks to your invaluable feedback, we’ve been hard at work implementing improvements to make BetterLinks even better suited to your needs. Here’s a rundown of the enhancements we’ve made based on your suggestions:

    1. We’ve improved the “Manage Links” admin menu to make navigation and editing easier than ever. Now, all link titles are clickable, allowing you to edit content directly from the list view with ease.
    2. The “Use custom fields” checkbox is now pre-checked by default, saving you the hassle of toggling it manually each time.
    3. We’ve listened to your feedback regarding the “Rows per page” dropdown in the links list view. Now, you’ll find a more user-friendly range of options: 10, 30, 50, 100, and 200.

    Hello,

Glad to see that you released improvements to your plugin and that my feedback helped!

Titles of the links are now clickable, it’s great, and custom fields is checked by default, it’s more usable

Unfortunately, those are very small changes, it’s not using WordPress native custom fields system so it’s not usable ?? and no info cards
