• Hi,

I was wondering if this function already exists: I wanted to add a customized excerpt to a page. This proved not be possible. Changing it to a post (with the help of a plugin) did make it possible, but it gives me a change of url that I don’t want (it puts it in the news category and I can’t deselect the category).

Is it possible to add excerpts to pages as well? I wanted to post the link to the donation page in a nice way on facebook, but it makes a very short excerpt (one sentence only). Also, the AddToAny plugin does not work on a page either (but that is not on your domain, that is feedback for the plugin developers).

Thanks Joy, I tried that, but when I was ‘linking’ it on facebook or whatsapp, nothing changed. The image in the excerpt is still the site-logo and there is no text accompanied, only the title of the page, in stead of the image on the page and the summary of the page.

    Am I doing something wrong?

Ah, sharing it on another site is a totally separate question. The external site determines what the share looks like if the page does not contain special markup that the site looks for.
Most people use a plugin to add that markup for Facebook and Twitter. Here is an explanation of the complex details: https://yoast.com/advanced-technical-seo-social-image-ogimage-tags/

Thank you Joy, that was a great help.

I do have a question though:
when I copypaste the url on my website, it could be either https:// or https://

For each prefix, I get different metadata. Is this default too?
With https:// –> I get the customized Yoast metadata
with https:// —> I get the basic wordpress metadata

Never mind, I checked it again and now the metadata are the same (the nice version)! Weird!
