add favicon on a website using an IP address

  • I installed my favicon on my Twenty Eleven themed website using a development server that only uses an IP address not a domain name, because its behind a firewall.

    When I’m inside the site using the dashboard, the icon appears in the browser’s left corner. When I view the site outside of the dashboard the favicon disappears.

    Is reason I am unable to view the favicon outside of the dashboard is the result of the website using an IP address and not a domain name?
