• I’m trying to add an image to my page, but every time I press “add media”, nothing happens. I’ve exhausted all possible reasons why this could happen & I’ve updated WordPress several weeks ago. Why is this happening. Help!

    What have you tried?

I’ve tried deactivating plug ins, re updating my wordpress, logging out & logging back in & still nothing. I hope to get this resolved before next week. My site launches officially on Thanksgiving. I was preparing to post my material in private until my launch date. I need my images.

Have you tried clearing any caching on your site and browser?

    Tried another browser?

Switched to the default theme with ALL plugins deactivated?

Resetting the plugins folder by renaming it temporarily?

I’ll try them & see what happens

I don’t know how to do the last two suggestions, though. Where do you switch to the default theme?

Under Appearance > Themes, find twentythirteen and click Activate.

To reset the plugins folder, you’ll need to use FTP or Cpanel to rename the folder on the server –

    wp-content
       plugins.HOLD

That fully deactivates all plugins – in case some aren’t deactivated by turning them off in the Dashboard.

I’ve tried switching to the default theme. I don’t see twentythirteen anywhere. I’ve also done the 1st 2 suggestions, & no success. Are any of these gauranteed to get the add media button to work again, or will I eventually have to uninstall everything? I really hope that switching to the default them works

What version of WP are you using? Do you have any of the twenty-something themes in your themes? You should always have at least one for troubleshooting.

And no, there are no guarantees – it’s a process to troubleshoot things like this.

    Version 1.5.19
    Hero theme

    WordPress 3.7.1

You should have twentythirteen in your themes folder then – unless someone deleted it? Not smart – you need a copy of the default theme for troubleshooting like this. If that’s the case, upload a copy of it and activate it.

Where is the themes folder located & where do I upload a copy if it’s been accidentally deleted?

    [filepath]/wp_content/themes
Paste the theme folder there. Or alternatively, go to the appearance page in your backend, and click install themes. From there, try to search for twentythirteen, install it, and activate it.

About to do as suggested. However, the theme I use was Hero. Does that matter? What’s the difference between the Hero theme & twentythirteen?

Also, this is actually happening after I’ve updated to WP 3.7.1. Why can’t I just re-install the older version?
