I created a new user role (with the User Role Editor plugin). Although that user role has near admin-level permissions in User Role Editor, the users assigned to that role are unable to view most existing pages and posts because Role Scoper’s default position is to not give them Read access (which makes perfect sense given how the plugin works).

I need to give this new user role Read access to every existing post and page in the site, which is over 1,000 items (so you can understand why I don’t want to do it one at a time by hand).

I have done quite a bit of searching around, but haven’t found a solution. I’m hoping I just missed it, since this is a daunting task.

Is it possible to “bulk assign” read access to every item for this new user group (even if it means running a MySQL query in PHPMyAdmin or something)?

You shouldn’t be assigning supplemental roles to give a user access to every post and page on the site. Follow the instructions on Roles > Options > Advanced > Administrator Definition to change the capability requirement for Content Administrator. Then give that capability to your Administrator and “Near Administrator” roles. That will prevent restrictions from applying to them.
