Has the dev team ever considered adding some user meta for “preferred location”?

For example, when a user changes location, they are given the option to add that location as their “preferred location.” This could follow them around via a cookie, and be set as user meta if/when they create an account.

Would this be a worthwhile feature?

I would think it would be useful. Imagine you had a nationwide directory for pubs/taverns. It would save a user from having to “Change” their location every time they visit the site.

Imagine I have a directory of pubs/taverns in Germany. If I live in Frankfurt, I just want to see the listings in/near Frankfurt when I visit the site. I don’t necessarily need to see the listings in Vilseck or Hamburg….

    Hi @oguruma,

I asked the developers to consider it, however, I don’t think using a cookie would be a good option, because it’d clash with most caching systems/plugins.

    Thanks,

    Thanks, Paolo.

I think user meta would be a huge improvement (if it ever happens, maybe tie it into UsersWP, as well? Users could update their “preferred area” in their profile).

Some method of adding “persistence” across sessions would provide a better experience to frequent users of a site.
