    Hi!

In your instructions your explain, how to edit the nginx.conf file to configure browser caching.
My webhoster, though, uses Apache as webserver.
How can I configure browser caching editing either the Apache configuration or the .htaccess file?
Which of these two options is preferred?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

    Kind regards,
    Gerald

  • Hello @dwpro !

    I hope you’re having a great week!

In this case, the rules should be applied for Apache web servers, even if Hummingbird detects the web server as nginx (this can sometimes happen on some hosting companies, especially if the details of the web server are being hidden).

On the Hummingbird >> Caching >> Browser caching please select Apache when configuring. Hummingbird will usually be able to add the rules automatically for you. If this is not possible, Hummingbird will provide the rules which you can simply paste in the .htaccess file in the root directory of the site. You can paste those rules at the beginning of the file for example. You can also contact your hosting company’s support and request adding the rules for you.

Please note that the way of adding the rules and editing the .htaccess file will differ depending on the hosting company, but majority of hosting companies provide some sort of file editor in the hosting’s dashboard/cPanel etc. which you can use to edit the files.

You can find out more about the setup process here: https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/hummingbird/#browser-cache

    Kind regards,
    Pawel

    Hi!
    Thank you for your explanations.
Didn’t notice the choice ‘Apache’ in browser cache configuration.
    Thanks for that hint.
    Seems to have worked now.
