Okay! So I just purchased GoDaddy’s Search Engine Visibility tool and they, of course, are now being 0% helpful now that I’ve paid for it and have run into an issue. Here are the steps they list for users to do once they have made their edits and downloaded them as a .txt file.

    – Open a text editing program, such as Notepad.
    – Log in to the Web hosting account provided to you by your hosting provider.
    – In the text editor, open the .html file of the Web page you want to add the Search Engine Visibility Tags to.
    – In the head portion of the file, insert the Search Engine Visibility Tags.
    – Save the file.
    – Upload the Web page to the server.

However, when I called, they said I would need to do things via an FTP which is listed nowhere in the official steps above. Then they agreed with the steps above but said they couldn’t “direct me” so they wouldn’t be liable for any issues if something went wrong.

My question is: how would I access the .html file for my site? I’ve gone into “Editor” of my theme but that doesn’t seem to be right.

insert the Search Engine Visibility Tags.

    What exactly is this?

The Search Engine Visibility tool scans your site to find where you could optimize things better for SEO purposes. For instance, it allows you to “Optimize your web page titles” (ie: 7 Ways GoDaddy Sucks) and once you’ve quickly browsed through and edited the flagged posts, they allow you to download those edits in a .txt file which you are then supposed to be able to upload to your site that makes these changes on the backend to alter how those posts are displayed in search.

Any clue on how to access the .html file like listed above?

Can you post here the “Search Engine Visibility Tags” thing that they’re telling you to add.

I think the title of it is throwing you off. It’s simply some code I need to add to the HTML. I’m posting here because I’ve never edited the HTML of my site before and want to make sure I’m accessing the right file. It’s not meant to alter any visuals of my actual site but how it looks to search engines if that makes sense

That’s fine, it’s still useful to know what that code is.

    Title tag code.

That’s probably already included in your theme. If you want to edit that, you’d need to edit the theme. Which theme are you using?

You can contact your theme’s vendors/ authors for help with that theme. We don’t support themes that are not distributed on www.ads-software.com.

First GoDaddy provides no answers. WordPress follows up with zilch. I’m 0% confident in anyone to actually help out. This is awesome.

As that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations.

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know how to apply those changes to your commercial theme. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

I just didn’t think this was necessarily a “theme issue” since I’m not trying to change the appearance of the theme or the site but edit the HTML so that title tags appear optimized in search engines.

If you were more helpful towards us by telling us more information about your installation, we wouldn’t have had to waste your time to find out you were using a commercial theme: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Include_as_Much_Information_as_Possible

We could have just told you in the first reply. Though, pointing you in the right direction for support is not unhelpful.

^^ As I just mentioned, I didn’t think the theme was the major component of this issue but thanks for being rude in your response to a non-Wordpress-expert trying to walk through an issue. Great attitude.

The HTML you need to edit, the title tag, and other tags, those aren’t modifiable in the post content unless you use a plugin like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-seo/

If you want to edit them without a plugin, you need to modify the theme, and as that is a premium theme we don’t have access to, you need to contact the support provided by the theme’s developer(s) for the product they sold to you: https://www.mvpthemes.com/support/
