Add “Sort by Published Date” pretty please

    Is it possible to add “Published Date” as a sort option for links? Right now the only date related option is the date the link was updated. If I make a small change to an old link it jumps to the top of the list. The benefit here is also that users can change the Published By in wordpress so adding this function would give a lot of flexibility.

    It may be possible to achieve this using the Simple Custom Post Order plug in but we have not been able to figure out how yet. (feel free to share how if you happen to know since you call out that app in the manual.

    A new option to sort based on publication has been added to version 6.5.6, which will be released a bit later today. Please update and let me know if it works as expected. Also please consider donating to support this plugin’s development.

    I am using the sort by date function via shortcode:
    [link-library settings="1" linkorderoverride="date" linkdirectionoverride="ASC"]

    This works and the data is sorted properly on the first page, but when I navigate beyond that (second, third pages), the links are out of order again. I’ve exported the .csv to confirm that the dates are all correct on the back end.

    The problem is that you are using linkorderoverride=”date” in your shortcode. Date refers to the link updated field value, not the publication date. If you want to use the publication date, which appears in the top-right of the link editor, you would need to either use pubdate (for which I just added support in Link Library 6.7.6), or to remove that parameter from the shortcode and set to sort by publication date from the Links tab of Library Configuration.
