• This looks great, but adding new svgs as code is bit daunting for most users. Would it be possible to add SVGs from the media library? With the SVG Support plugin I can already add SVGs to the media library, but that relies on the Image block instead of a custom SVG block.

Adding my own custom set of icons would be great.

  • +1 for this

This will make it easier to reuse svgs
as end user does not always have the expertise to get icon svg code.

Hi @audunmb, thank you for the feature request. There definitely needs to be an easier way to “reuse” or “register” your own custom SVGs. Given that SVGs are not natively supported in the media library, I would be hesitant to provide media library support. Instead, I will be looking into a solution similar to this feature request: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/custom-icon-in-library/. This would allow you to directly register your own set of SVG icons. Keep an eye on the plugin’s GitHub repository for progress on this.

That would also work. Though, Media Library support would have the benefit of ease and familiarity for users, as well as the option to use other media library plugins for organization (like those that add custom folders).

A use case might be when I want to add the logos of our partners to some page, and some offer their logo as an svg and others as an png. With media library support I’ll find all of them in the same place, while with a separate Icon library I’ll have to know that some of them are svgs and some are pngs.

Though, maybe a better solution would be to add this block to the SVG Support plugin, rather than adding full media library support to your plugin.

    Hi @audunmb,

While adding SVG icons from the Media library is still not supported, the latest release does support custom icon libraries. They do need to be registered separately but provide you with complete flexibility over the icons available in the plugin. I put together a short tutorial on how to do this.

    Best,
    Nick
