• How do I add hyperlinks to words in a post or page; e.g., the word curriculum might have a hyperlink pointing to its meaning in a particular dictionary.

Typically I would want to have all hyperlinks placed inside words before I transfer a post from MS Word to the text area of my post on WP. I have tried that but the hyperlinks showed up as gibberish when I visited the site.

Of course, the footnotes or endnotes are indicated by a reference number or letter immediately after a word. I don’t know if footnotes or endnotes work or not in WordPress, or how they work.

I have looked and looked and I cannot find the answers to these questions.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

you can not use a rich text editor like MS – it throws garbage code and bonks everything
if you must use MS, at least c & p into Notepad and save before putting it in wordpress

using a normal editor you shouldn’t have any problems with links

First of all, thank you very much for your timely response to my question.

I see that if I save my text as a text file in Notepad, that I lose all of the hyperlinks and notes in the file. It there a text editor outside of MS that I can use that will allow me to enter hyperlinks and notes before uploading?

I looked at ScribeFire, which appears to allow the hyperlinks and notes to remain but was unable to figure out to upload with that system.

Is the answer that, in the end, I must enter my text and formatting directly in the WP text box for a Page (which this upload is) or a Post online? This would mean redoing everything I do in the creative process, as I write a Page or, more frequently, a Post.

I am located in the Philippines. that time difference, trying to put your advice to use, and family matters are the reason I was so slow in responding.

I appreciate the job you do.

    lawrencae,

according to this post, you can cut-and-paste from Microsoft Word to WordPress and have it generate good HTML, by using some keyboard commands (Alt-B, or Alt-V), which display some hidden options in the native WP Editor (go figure!)

See if this does what you are looking for, to clean up the extra garbage code.

    Buddha Trance,

Thanks so much for you help. I am going to be rebuilding my computer system over the next day or two. After that I will try the method of handling MS Word, which pointed me toward.

    Cheers.
