Add to cart popup too fast to read

Hi
When my customers click add to cart, a popup flies onto screen and before they can read it it flies off again. The same problem happens with three other popups and I am hoping that slowing one down will affect all of these.
What I need to know is how to slow down the popup box, or better still make it so it has to be dismissed.
Can anyone help plese!
