Add to Cart with Variations

I have what I thought would be a very simple task, have a product add to cart button on a page (imagine a big landing page, with an add to cart as part of it in a few places)

This works fine for simple products, however for variable products it doesn’t work it just links to single product; but we want to select variations from the main page. This is basically what we want though – a shortcode that will show the add to cart form where you can select the variations then add to cart.

I was surprised I can’t find anything doesn’t exist (lots of irrelevant results in Google though). I assume it can be done, do you have any direction as to how?
