Thanks for the great plugin. Everything works well, but I am wondering if the website’s native language can be added to the dropdown when the plugin is in use but otherwise be hidden. I had a user translate the site and didn’t notice the translation banner, and therefore didn’t know how to revert back to the native language (the banner color doesn’t stand out much against the website). It also makes sense from the user’s perspective that they would go to the same location to change back to the website’s native language. I could add the native language to the language list, but it would be a little strange if it’s in the list when someone first goes to translate the site. I came across another website that does this with google translate: https://drcog.org/ Any advice? Thanks!

    Hello,

the only way to return back to the original language is by clicking the Show original button in the translation banner.

You can have the same translator as the website you mentioned, by going to the plugin’s admin settings page, and then to:

General > Display mode, select Inline

General > Style mode, select the 3rd option

    Hello,

it’s been a week already. Did you have the chance to try the solution provided?

My apologies for not replying earlier. The solution offered did not address my issue, because I was not asking about the display and style mode of the translator. While the translation banner works well for stopping the translation, the gray color blends in with the browser window and is hard to notice. My attempts to change the color of the banner through my theme’s CSS failed. Thanks for responding to my post. If you update the plugin to provide the option of listing the native language only when translating, I think it would improve the user’s experience.

    Hello,

good to hear back from you again.

The answer provided before was meant to make the plugin behave in the same way the website you mentioned.

The translation banner is inside an IFRAME, this means that it isn’t really in your website, is a window loading its content directly from Google’s servers. It’s not technically possible to modify anything within this IFRAME, sorry.

The translator is made by Google (hence the name of the plugin). We made an administration interface so people can use easily it without modifying files or writing code.

This free Google translation script can be found at:

    https://translate.google.com/manager/website/

I hope you understand that your request is simply not possible to get it done, it’s something entirely up to Google.

If you don’t have any other question, we’d appreciate if you could close this support request.

Thanks for explaining how the banner works. It makes sense that it’s not possible to use CSS on it. But it seems like my original request for adding the native language to the drop down when translating is feasible, given that the example site I linked does it, and the site uses google translate. This site also has that feature: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dola
Is there a way to add that feature?

    Hello,

I’m not sure if I understand what do you mean. I’m opening this site you mentioned. The site is written in English. I click on Translate and select, lets say, Danish. The page is translated, but there’s no English entry in the drop down, see:

    Screenshot

Same happens with the first link you sent. Perhaps this is not what you meant. Please provide a more detailed explanation of what you expect, a screenshot would be help too.

    Let me know.

English appears in the top left, where “> Select Language” used to be. Do you see it? Thanks for your patience on this matter!

That’s inside the banner too, as explained before, nobody can modify it. So that’s the way this plugin works too. Please check your site again and let me know.

It’s not in the banner, it’s in the drop down. The red arrows point to “Select Language” (displayed before translating) and “English” (displayed when translating) on the website: https://s9.postimg.io/yu9zcqdy7/Translator.jpg

If you’re not using all languages in:

    General > Translation languages

Make sure to select English from the list, and it should show up.

If it doesn’t show up on your site, then please provide a link/URL so we can take a look.

My question is how can I hide the native language when the plugin is not translating. In both sites I referenced, their native language (english) is not included in the initial dropdown list. English only appears once the plugin is translating. I understand how to add english to the list of languages, but then it will appear as the first option when the user goes to translate the site, which is odd/confusing, since the site is already in the native language.
