Add widget area to top of homepage

ahh I see that but wasn’t sure if it would work for the top of the page. What do I have to change to make it the top of the theme?

After you registered your sidebar (widget area) you can call it anywhere (header.php) in your theme template files.

I understand that this is for individual pages but how do I add a header widget to my homepage?
