add widgetized footer ala 2012

I want to add the widget – ized footer from twentyten to twenty twelve.

Would it be as simple as pulling the code from the 2010 functions for the footer into 2012 functions? (and changing all instances of 2010 to 2012?) IN A Child Theme of course!

This is my first look at twenty twelve and I am really liking it so far.
