• Hi everyone,

I have a education teaching website that plays flash videos. Here is an example:

    https://www.teacherjames.com/studyhall2.php?id=33

I’d like to replace the section (in the middle) where it starts with “ABOUT THIS TEACHER” and put in a user blog there so that viewers can watch the video and post comments. * Exactly like youtube videos or similar video sites.

#1. Is this possible to imbed WordPress into a site like this?

#2. Since we have user accounts, can we link the comments to their user accounts?

Any feedback is much appreciated here or direct email to me:

    Thanks!
    JD

  • Is your site custom coded? WordPress has some limited integration with other popular software packages, but for a custom site, you would need even more custom code.

The only way you could get a whole WordPress webpage into this page is with an iframe, and I wouldn’t recommend that.

In theory you could have the login for your site and WordPress unified, but in practice, many CMSes and other apps do not enjoy this tight of integration.

Well, the easiest way, you could set up a separate WordPress powered blog, and use an RSS feed or a custom call from WordPress’ database to feed in headlines from the blog to the main site, and even feed in comments. But to watch the videos and comment, a user would have to click though.

I think in the long run, you will have less headaches, less bills from developers, and a more reliable site if you keep everything on one platform. I’d recommend migrating the whole site to WordPress, or another CMS like Drupal if your specific needs warranted it, and then you can have all of that great functionality at your fingertips, like video and comments.

WordPress is well suited to educational websites, just look at some of the college sites in the Showcase!

    hi jleuze,

Our site is custom coded, and it’s got a few other features that don’t have to do with the videos so I’m hesitant to mess with any of that (but I would have to ask our developer).

In essence, I’m just looking for a way that users (logged in users) can comment on a Flash video that I put up.

Is there no software out there that’s plug and play like this? I’m a novice so forgive me if I’m not taking into consideration other factors.

the iFrame may work. can you explain a little why you wouldn’t recommend that?
The RSS feed is an interesting idea, but like you said…that’s a click through.

Again, our goal is to put up a new video (flash) each week and have viewers comment on it. Then, I would likely take the transcription of that video and paste it in our forums or even email it out to interested viewers.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

    JD
