add_option not working

    Hi,
    I have no idea why this isn’t working so was hoping for some insights. Does the user have to be logged in for this code to execute correctly?
    add_option(‘test_option’,”a test option”,””);
    add_option(‘test_option’,”a test option”,””,”yes”);

    upon executing either of the above the wp_options table does not reflect the added option (I’ve tried refreshing etc)
