• Hi,

    This one has me baffled!

I am running wpmu version 2.9.2. When a user uses “Add Media” to insert an image into a blog, the image gets uploaded fine but will not display. The image shows up in the blog as an empty box. I checked the uploaded image and it is there and if I copy it to my computer I can open it and it looks fine (I.e. it is not corrupted). If I go to the image’s URL in a browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome), the browser finds the image but it will also not display (red x in IE, url string in firefox). I know the browsers finds the image because if I use the exact same URL but change the file name to a file that is not there, I get a message “file not found”. The URL I am using to test this looks like this:

https://mydomain/blog/files/2010/09/Jellyfish.jpg (the directory for this on my web server is /var/www/html/blog/wp-content/blogs.dir/20/files/2010/09)

    Things I’ve tried:

    1) I changed the wp-content folder (and all subfolders) permissions to 775 and then 777 and neither made a difference.
    2) I made sure there was a copy of mime.type in the config folder (one forum suggested this) but this did not help either.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Our blog users will want to insert images into their blogs quite a bit so this is a huge problem for us.

    Thanks!!!

  • Have you checked the uploads path in Settings/Media?

Thanks esmi, I actually doubt that’s the problem because the files are being uploaded just fine. I get a feeling it’s something to do with an Apache and/or WordPress setting that’s affecting how images are being served up. Not sure though, it’s very strange (and frustrating)
