Hi there, I added a ‘counterize’ plug in, activated it and not only did it not work, but I lost all my pictures from my posts! I’ve deleted the files, deactivated the plug in but still no pictures.

    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    Meretta.

  • Hi Meretta, do you have a link to your blog that we could see?

I see lots of pictures. At least, those that art part of your theme.

But you mention your missing pictures in posts? Is there a specific post we should look at?

Be sure to clear your browser’s cache or hit ctrl-F5 while viewing your page to make sure you’re seeing a current copy.

I cleared my cache in Firefox and also opened in IE where I see where the pictures are supposed to be (there are boxes with x’s inside them) but no pictures in Firefox still.

There should be pictures in just about every post on that page but the first two. And they are gone from ALL my posts which I imported from Blogger.

I uploaded the “counterize” files again and was mistaken earlier. I thought I should have a counter on my page, but instead it’s in my dashboard. It’s working so that’s fine.

But I still haven’t been able to get back my pictures that were imported with my Blogger posts. I’m wondering if adding the plug in somehow messed up the process?

They were there. I can see some of them in IE, but none of them in Firefox and I have refreshed the page.

Do you think that dumping all my Blogger posts in WordPress and then re-importing them would help?

If I were to do that, are they the files found in wp-admin/import/blogger.php ? Do I need to delete the other files (dotclear, greymatter, etc,) as well? They have content but I’m not sure it’s from me or from the importer plug in.

Ok, we hadn’t mentioned the blogger import earlier. So let me ask this question: Had you ever seen images in those posts on your WP blog?

If you edit a post that is missing a picture and look at the html view, where’s it trying to pull the picture from?

    Thanks HandySolo.

I had all the images last night (when I imported) and also this morning. When I added the counterize files and then checked my site to see it (I thought it was a “visual” counter and not just visible on the dashboard) all my images had disappeared.

When I check to see where one image is being pulled from…

Sorry for the funny posts. Trying to make it so it shows up as exactly as I’d seen it.

ah ha. And it would appear blogger doesn’t allow hot-linking. That’s going to cause some challenges.

You might search the forums here on blogger and see if you can find a thread about importing images from them.

    Thanks. I’ll try that.

I figured out what I did wrong. It had NOTHING to do with the counterize files at all or the import.

When I did my first attempt of importing my Blogger posts, I was using a template that had errors and the importer was hassling me about them. So I backed that template up, switched to a fresh Blogger template, imported all my posts and images from that, and then switched back to my old template.

In switching back, I realized I hadn’t posted to let people know I’d “moved” so then I went back into my publishing settings and changed it all back to pubishing on Blogger rather than an ftp, posted my message and went to bed not realizing that I’d just cut the “connect” to all the images I’d uploaded to Blogger in the past year.

I went back in today, changed the settings back to ftp and voila! My pictures have returned. Thanks for the help.

    Meretta.

If you do want to import the photos from Blogger then might I recommend my plugin for doing just that. This plugin below scans through the posts looking for image links on blogger.com and copies the files to your server. This will take some more space but eliminate any requirements you have on the blogger image hosting.

Please leave a comment on that page you have any problems.

Check out all my Blogger import plugins here (I wrote one other to handle the “bad” titles produced by Blogger posts with no title.)

Hmmm. I thought I had it all worked out. Apparently as long as I’m logged in to Blogger the images are present in WordPres (at least for me). But if I log out from Blogger, the images disappear.

I’m thinking I might give your plug in a try.

    Thanks!
