I’m not sure if this a theme-specific issue. I added a page (contact me) and it appears in the header. I want to manually add the page links there. Does any new page automatically head to the header? (If so, I will manually put the link in the sidebar and will put a mailto link in the footer).

Also, Pages is now at the top of my sidebar. But I use sidebar.php where the order of the items and the items themself are specified by me. Since I didn’t add the Pages section to sidebar.php, how can I move it down? I’m thinking that I can specify order in the admin area, but since technically that is the only section in the sidebar in the admin area, I can’t tell it where to go. Can I disable that from happening? Or do I simply have to create pages manually and place the link in the sidebar.php file?

    Hi SickSquirrel,

For the menu issue, please refer to this article.

And for the sidebar issue, this article may help.

If you are still having the issues, please post your website url so we can have better ideas about your issues.

Hi, I’d rather not post it publicly. But I’ll check your links and see if it solves things. Thanks

Ok, I went to Appearance>>>Menus and none are there. It says, “The current theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar”.

So WHY does a page I create end up in the header menu? Can I disable this?

As for the Widgets link, it didn’t help. I have no Widgets active. Instead, I have sidebar.php. Under index.php, after calling for the header, it calls for the sidebar (<?php get_sidebar(); ?>). So I edit sidebar.php for the items to appear in order (categories, archives, meta) and I add in links manually.

So I don’t want the script to add anything to the sidebar. If I add a page, I read that I can check something to NOT have it add to the sidebar. But I lost the URL

What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

It was customized but the basic theme is siteground wp-43. The header graphic and overall color was changed I believe.

I looked over Add New under Pages but don’t see anything to “check off” to disable it from being in the header. So if I add one, it ends up in the sidebar,

I have never liked or used widgets and find it easier to just edit sidebar.php. I tried widgets recently, thinking after 4 years of no blogging, it would be easier. I decided to go back to my sidebar.php method.

Where did you download the original theme from?

I’m sorry but as you are using a commercially supported theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s developers – paid or otherwise. We only support themes downloaded from www.ads-software.com here.

I understand. Can you answer the question specific to WP regarding the Pages issue? It would happen on any theme I use, right?

It’s not possible to give a generic answer as every theme – and its navigation menu(s) – is different.

    Hi SickSquirrel,

It is quite hard to tell how to fix the issue without seeing the issue.

As it seems it’s theme related issue, you will have to contact the theme developer (as esmi mentioned above).

There is a bit of guess work though that if I understood right, your sidebar should be placed in the right hand side of the page, but currently the page is above the sidebar. Is that correct? If so, check the width of the page box if it’s too wide and reduce the width. Also check if there are any available custom templates.

So with some themes, adding a Page won’t end up in the header links? Or in the sidebar?

There is no place in the admin area to specify you do or don’t want a page from appearing in those places?

    Thread Starter SickSquirrel

    (@sicksquirrel)

No, Ryan, the LINK shows up. Pages is at the top of the sidebar with “contact me” under it as the link.

    Correct – on both counts.

There is no place in the admin area to specify you do or don’t want a page from appearing in those places?

Not unless you can set up a custom menu.

Thanks. I think my best bet is to NOT use Pages and manually add to the sidebar. This way I don’t need a workaround for the theme and its child.
