Adding a "personal" video to page

  • Hello all,
    I have a personal video that I want to add to a page. I’ve uploaded it to my host (not WordPress.com). It presents itself as a link that, when clicked, opens Windows Media Player with the video in it. Is it possible to have it embedded in the page itself and not have an “external player” play it? Or do I need to add a Plugin for that to happen?
    I have no problem adding yet another plugin, if I need to, to have this happen…

  • It would be much easier if you uploaded your video to Youtube or vimeo and then just embed that in your WordPress theme. That way you wouldn’t need a player, plugin or worry about your site crawling to a site when more than one person watches it.

    I’m beginning to think that you’re right, Christine… But isn’t it common for people to want to use their own personal media that, for whatever reason, they don’t want to post to YouTube?

    If you ever find this out, I’d love to know as well. I’m a professional videographer. Until a couple of days ago, I used Dreamweaver to do my website and I was able to post videos for my clients – easily. They were hosted on the host server and Dreamweaver had great video players. I found just using Dreamweaver so time consuming that my other work suffered. I have a WordPress site for my artwork and love it. Favorite website I ever had. So moved my business site over to WordPress as well. Love the look of it. Can’t figure out how to post my videos though. My clients provide me music to use in the backgrounds and they’re usually copyrighted music. Putting the videos on YouTube or Vimeo is a huge sign pointing to that fact. I hope WordPress comes up with a way to play videos without all the pain.

    I don’t have a problem even buying a plugin for this, but I have to find one that will be compatible with the other plugins that I use…
    If anyone has any recommendations, I’m all ears…
