• Hi all,

Im not at all an experienced web builder, but I’m in charge of my sportsclubs website now since the last webmaster quit. I’m having some trouble with adding read more tags to my latest posts. (www.kcdoorn.nl)

I’ve not encountered this problem before, but since today when I add a read more tag to a post and press save it goes to a 404 page. Though when I take out the tag I can change and save anything I want like normal. The problem only occurs with the read more tag.

If you check my homepage you’ll see its quite important tot use those tags to keep the site tidy.

Any ideas what is going wrong?

EDIT: I just tried to go to the settings of the element that loads the posts. There I changed the settings to it automatically cuts the posts shorts and adds a read more tag. But here also I coudn’t save the changes… Translated error: “Failed to save, something went wrong while saving your page. There might be multiple causes…”

  • I see you are using divi builder but not sure how you are adding the posts. you only have to enable read more there. nothing esle.

Are you using custom boxes for the blog posts ?

You can share details with me so I can check what exactly happening. I suggest you to take backup before sharing details.

    Thanks for the reply!

I’m not sure if there are multiple ways to add posts. I just go to the WP dashboard > Messages > New post (Translated from Dutch, so might not be the exact same words)

Also not sure if we use custom boxes, since I’m not the builder of the website, nor do I have a way to contact him.

Do you mean giving you a login by sharing details? I would be fine with doing that. Do I need to give you specific permissions or something?

EDIT: I exported a backup from the site like you said.

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

You account is temporarily moderated. This means that a moderator will have to review your posts before they’re public.

It’s never necessary to do that. Here’s why.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

If you are using something other than the core editor to write your posts, please ask in the plugin’s support forum.

Read More tags only apply when the theme (or plugin) is outputting the full content of the post on an archive page. So this should have nothing to do with the editor, unless you have a plugin that is doing something with it.
