Adding a user to the main site generates an email and otherwise not

    When I was logged in to the network dashboard as admin, I created a user and received two emails:

    1. The net admin notification with the user IP

    2. An email with title “New User Registration [main site name]” and content “New user registration on your site site name“, username and email.

    My questions are:

    1. Although the user was created from the network dashboard, the second email mentions the main site name and not the network name. Why is that?

    2. The user has not been assigned to any site, because it was created from the network dashboard and not from one of the site’s dashboard, right?

    1. Check at example.com/wp-admin/network/settings.php and see what the network name is. It SHOULD default to that, but when you generate your network, it’s the same as your main site, so … if you forgot to change it, that’s why.

    2. That’s correct. You can add the users to sites, though.

    The network name is the main site name plus the word Sites. However, the email mentions the main site name (without “Sites”).

    Wait… you’re adding the user at the network level or the main site level?

    Network. I’m pretty sure that’s the normal behavior of WP and it doesn’t happen just to me. Just wondering why is that ??

    *traces back* Looks like a holdover from ?ye olde days when your main site WAS the master of the network.?

    So it’s calling wp_new_user_notification() which defaults to the main site. Interesting…. Ah, good, we have a ticket!
