I would like to have a video loop playing when someone shares a particular page instead of a still jpg image. I have been reading off and on for months now. I have the lower resolution video hosted on my site. I have learned it has to go int he head section of header.php but everything I try to code and copy into it doesn’t seem to work. I have tried many things. I know it is simple but just can’t find the correct code and location anywhere on the web. Can anyone help with a little more information? Thanks! J

Hi,

The Yoast SEO plugin does not come with the og:video or og:type video tag needed to play videos on social media. Facebook explains more about the tags needed here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/webmasters/.

You are welcomed to develop the ability with Yoast to add those tags in. Unfortunately, there’s a difference between the support we can offer and the level of programming needed to change (core) features of our plugin. Since we don’t want to take the risk that we break your website by suggesting incorrect or incomplete code, we cannot advise you on how to make such changes. And even though we cannot be of any assistance, you’re completely free to change anything in the plugin to better suit your needs.

The alternative would be to use our Video SEO plugin which outputs those tags. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/video-seo/.

However, the plugin can only output 1 video per page (so if you have many videos on a page only 1 can be outputted) and Facebook has changed how videos get played on its platform so you may experience issues when sharing a page to Facebook, the video not play or show.

BUT other social media networks may show and play the video as expected since many other networks use those same og tags.
