  • Hi fguihen!

Are you looking for the blog and main site to be two different WordPress install?

If so, you could have two WordPress installations and simply manage them separately. Here’s a very handy guide for WordPress and sub-directories:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

If you’re looking to use just one WordPress install for both purposes, that’s definitely possible as well. You can have your main site composed of Pages, and have a Blog page such as https://www.fintangphotography.com/blog/ that will simply display blog posts.

That would mean that you would have to move WordPress out of the subdirectory. As always, before doing anything, make sure to back up your files and database! https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_Backups

Let me know if you need any further guidance!

    Hi fguihen,

as andyiancu said, you can keep one installation and use your website both for blog and the main page for whatever you need. I am not sure why do you want to have 2 different entities.
You can install your WP in your main root and then choose a theme that allows you to make a page as blog template showing a list of your recent posts, instead of having your Wp installed in the /blog directory.

    Thanks guys.

To give background on what i want to do:
I have installed wodpress in https://www.fintangphotography.com/blog directory.
Now, I want to set up a site on the root, while keeping the blog in the /blog sub directory, and use teh same wordpress install for both the site and blog.

I followed the instructions in this link(https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory), but once i change the Site Address URL to https://www.fintangphotography.com in wordpress settings, my blog is not found (404 error). I followed all the steps but i still got the 404 error.
once i changed teh Site Address URL back to https://www.fintangphotography.com/blog the blog works again.

So i am not sure how to get to a final state where I have a site at teh root, the blog is accessible via the subdirectory /blog and both can be managed via the one wordpress install.

Ive managed to completely break my blog.

I moved wordpress back to the /blog subdirectory (so external links to my blog would still work).

I can access my control panel, but my site (www.fintangphotography.com/blog) is just comming up as completely blank.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Fixed using a backup of my site!

    Hi fguihen,

WordPress is not just a blog, you can use it both for blogging and making pages also called landing pages. You don’t need to install 2 wordpress cms on the same site.

What you did before was correct, moving wp on the main root instead of the blog directory. According on your theme setting you should be able to create a page, you can call it blog and set as Blog template, so when somebody goes to Yourwebsite.com/blog will see the list of your posts. Again into the settings you can tell WordPress what do you want to show as home page, such as a static page etc, etc.
You can do this just with one Wp installation.
