Adding affiliate links in the sidebar

I have tried many different affiliate links that i have and not one will work. In am dragging the text widget into the sidebar/footer and giving it a title and pasting my link in the box but when i refresh my site nothing appears.Can anyone offer some help or point me in the right direction if im doing it wrong.
