• Hi, I wanted to add this copyright notice on the bottom of my website that uses the Twenty Fourteen template (Created by Jennie Richards. Copyright ? 2015 Homeless to Housecats. All Rights Reserved.) I have read how to do it by creating a child template first, then adding it to the source code. But I’m not comfortable doing this myself. Do you have any suggestions for me, or are there new plug ins that can do it? This is my website: https://www.homelesstohousecats.com.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Jennie

  • When you want to add Twenty Fourteen template (Created by Jennie Richards. Copyright ? 2015 Homeless to Housecats. All Rights Reserved.) means you’re the developer of Twenty Fourteen template. Are you sure?

No, I have a website that uses the Twenty Fourteen theme and want to add a Copyright date at the bottom, saying: (Created by Jennie Richards. Copyright ? 2015 Homeless to Housecats. All Rights Reserved.)

Can you recommend how I can do this?

    Thanks, Jennie

Go to Appearance,Editor, then find the footer.php file on the right and click on it. Then look through the file for this line
    Proudly powered by WordPress

Replace the www.ads-software.com with homelesstohousecats.com and replace Proudly powered by wordpress with Created by Jennie Richards. Copyright ? 2015 Homeless to Housecats. All Rights Reserved.

    Then save and view.

Jennie – if you modify theme files without using a child theme, all of those changes will be lost when WordPress is updated – since you are using a default theme – it’s replaced with the next WP major update.

Not a good way to go at all.

@bbeckw26 – please be aware that it’s really not great advice to suggest modifying theme files directly – especially in a default theme.

Here’s a plugin that might give you another possible way to do something similar:
