• Hi, first off awesome plugin!

I have three user groups, Editors, Staff Writers, and Contributors.

Contributors have everything locked down except from adding posts and uploading pictures. This was working perfectly until I submitted a new Post from a Contibutor author, and since that has been submitted, none of the Contributor group users have an option to Create a new post in their side bar once logged in.

I’m not sure what has changed, but do you know how I can add a privilege to their setup to allow them to create a post, as I can;t find an option for that anywhere?

    Thanks.

‘Posts -> Add New’ is under control of ‘edit_posts’ capability by default. But if ‘create_posts’ capability (switched off by default) was activated at your site, try to add it to the role.

I’m having this same problem. My “contributors” cannot add posts.

In the “contributor” role, the “edit_posts” option is selected, but they still cannot add new posts.

There is now “create_posts” option in the list of capabilities.

How can I make it so that they can create new posts? Thanks.

I suppose that you use Pro version. Add ‘create_posts’ capability to the role, or switch off the “Activate “Create Post/Page” capability” option under the Settings->User Role Editor (under Network Admin if URE was network activated).

Actually, I do not have Pro. How can I add “create_posts” without the PRo version?

That’s strange. Free version does not add ‘create_posts’ or ‘create_pages’ capability. May be this is a result of some other plugin action. If you see ‘create_posts’ capability at the capabilities list, try to turn it on for the role and look if that will change something.

No, you’re right, in my free version, there is no capability for “create_posts” or “create_pages” listed.

You said in your message above that “‘Posts -> Add New’ is under control of ‘edit_posts’ capability by default.”

The problem is that my “contributor” role has the edit_posts” capability, but they cannot add new posts. See what I mean?

I see. Can user with ‘author’ role add new post at your site? What’s the difference between those 2 roles at your site currently?

I’m having this same problem. I do not have the Pro version.

Now none of my created roles have the capability to add posts, but hey all have “Edit posts” selected.

The default ‘Author’ role does not have edit posts capability selected. Overall on our site there are huge differences between “Author” role and our custom roles. “Author” has only basic read capabilities.

    Some further information:

“Author” is our default role for new users.

I have tried adding and selecting a capability “create_users” for each role but that has no effect.

I have now upgraded to URE Pro; activated “Create Post/Page” capability; and enabled that capability for the roles that need it.

But still those roles do not show Posts in the admin menu. I have also confirmed that going direct to /wp-admin/edit.php is blocked as well.

As far as I can tell the problem has started either since the latest URE upgrade, or possibly since we installed bbPress on the site. Unfortunately both happened at the same time, so it is hard to say which might have the conflict.

If that’s possible to look on the issue on-line, send admin login credentials to the support [at-sign] role-editor.com.
Let me know what role should have permissions to work with posts.

Just to confirm – I sent the login details by email yesterday.

Strange thing – I did not received your message. Please re-check email address to which you sent the message.

    My error. Resent now.
