    Hello,

I’ve noted these files could be edited to customize translation:
    – pw-woocommerce-gift-cards-fr_FR.po
    – pw-woocommerce-gift-cards-fr_FR.mo

These files lives in /wp-content/plugins/pw-gift-cards/languages. However they are replaced whenever the plugin is updated, so I was wondering if there was a solution to prevent that without installing the Loco plugin?

I’m thinking about the WooCommerce plugin for example who recommends to put the files in wp-content/languages/woocommerce/ so they are not impacted by the plugin update. So I tried to put them in wp-content/languages/pw-gift-cards/ but it didn’t work…

    Thanks!

Changing the files in the plugins folder directly is not recommended because as you have pointed out the files are replaced with each plugin update.

We recommend using the free Loco Translate plugin to do any custom translations that you need for your shop. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/loco-translate/

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi @pimwick, thanks for your reply. My question is precisely about an alternative to Loco translate as I would like to limitate the number of plugins on my site.

Would it be possible to add custom .po & .mo files somewhere else so that they would not be removed when the plugin gets updated?

Yes, you could create your own custom translation files and place them in the /languages/ folder as per the WordPress documentation:

    https://developer.www.ads-software.com/plugins/internationalization/localization/#using-localizations

This is outside the scope of what is specific to our plugin so I’m marking this thread as resolved. Best of luck with your store!
