Adding download directly on post creation doesn’t create WP attachment

Hey,

we just realized that when adding downloads via the quick add functionality of DLM within the edit posts screen, there’s no wordpress attachment being created for that. But when adding downloads the usual/standard way, it does.

This is of relevance for us since we use the ThreeWP broadcasting plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/threewp-broadcast/) (together with its Premium Pack Addon) which supports broadcasting downloads (and its related files) within a multisite network. But it relies on attachments being created in order to work correctly.
So when users add a download directly, the broadcasted download will be invalid.

Can you explain why’s that and what to do about it?
