Adding functions.php to Child Theme

Hi,

I’ve created a Child theme, but I’m not sure how to make a functions.php file that will work properly?

I’m not very good at all this but I’ve seen lots of different things to do. Can I add it on Filemanager and then just start inserting code?

Any step-by-step advice would be much appreciated!
