Adding Images & Header

And the themes.php file IS in the admin folder. I tried in IE as well, and still the same. Also, when I try to add images in media mananger, I get http error. I also re-installed the new version of WP, and nothing. Do I have to go back to an old version???

A 406 (not acceptable) error is your web server saying (probably to WordPress) that the data type it is presenting is not acceptable to the recipient. This is a server error, and it is a little unusual. Try contacting tech support at your host and see if they can help you with this.

I did contact the host, and they said that my IP is not blocked, and they tried uploading images through the file manager and it works fine. And this is a 404 error, not a 406 error (which I have never seen before).

После того как обновила WP у меня перестали вставляться картинки в статьи. Мучаюсь уже несколько месяцев. Раньше можно было без проблем вставить картинку прямо с компьютера, сейчас этого сделать нельзя. Когда пытаюсь вставить картинку в статью выдается ошибка. Приходиться вставлять картинку с компьютера сначала в медиафайлы, потом заходить в них и только через ссылку вставлять, и то вставляется не с первого раза. Кстати с новым последним обновлением вставлять картинку становиться все сложнее и сложнее (и дольше по времени)

The 404 error is caused by the server not finding an appropriate error page to handle the previous “Not Acceptable” error. You should see both errors in your error logs.

It is possible that some directory permissions have changed, preventing WordPress from writing to WP-Content. There is a lot to read about permissions, this doc is helpful:

I have checked all of the file permissions, and the directory folders are all 755, and the files are all 644 except the wp-config file, which is 600. I deactivated all plugins except for Akismet. I am still unable to upload images.

This is also happening through the browser upload. That is when I get the 404 error. However when I go to Media, and try to just upload a new image, it gives me an Http error. So neither one works.

Downloaded the .htaccess file, and it says this:

Since updating WordPress, I am unable to add media to my library. Each time I try, via all methods, I receive the response “No temporary file”, or, “Error in Loading”. Anyone know what’s up with this? Thanks

It looks like something is going on with media_new.php, so I downloaded it from the www.ads-software.com site, and uploaded it to my site that I am working on, and it did not work. On the media page, however, before it gave me the http error. Now that is gone away and replaced with the 404 error as I stated before.

SkyeMoody, it might be best for you to open a new thread, you don’t seem to have the same issue.

dianasather1, from your troubleshooting actions, I’ll guess that you have run into the Mod_security server module that periodically causes 406 errors. I suggest that you get Support to turn it off temporarily to see if that makes the issue go away. If they suggest a specific mod to your .htaccess file to get this done you should do that, but I don’t think you should edit .htaccess otherwise. Running with Mod_security off for an extended period is not a great idea, the module is there for a reason and provides valuable protection, but at least we will have isolated the cause and can work from there.
