Adding images to pages – only grid view

Hi, I have WP 5.5.1 and I can only upload (add) images into the Media Library and see them in the List View and not the Grid View. I don’t understand why this is.
When I try to add images in the Grid View – I don’t see them, but they have been uploaded, and I can see them only in the List View.
However, when trying to add an image to a Page, only the Grid View is offered, and so none of my images are available to insert into the page.
If I return to the Media Library, there they are in the List View, but not the Grid View. This is the same in both the Classic Editor and the Block Editor.
SiteGround has not been able to help with this.
