Hi, I have a client site that I’m adding in 4 lots of variations:

Thickness / Width / Roll Size / Colour

And these will make up over 140 variations for the 1 product.

The main issue I am having (as I save regularly) in case something goes wrong.

The issue is I add in each thickeness & Width & Roll Size & Colour in groups so all the thickness are together of 0.6mm, then I move onto the next thickness of 0.8mm etc.

But the issue is AFTER I save, then it moves them all around and seems to put the Colours together and then ALL the thickness variations that were sitting together gets all mixed up.

It is doing my head in!

I need it to stay in the order that I input it, as I have to ADD all the pricing in next .. so they have to be in this order as I have an Excel sheet printed that I need to easily and quickly add in all the pricing relevant.

I will be using a Bulk Editor Program to add the pricing in, BUT need the Variations in Woocommerce product NOT to move.

I really DON’t want to ADD the Order ID either as that is a major pain also.

Really as I’ve seen it before, it normally saves it as I’ve entered it, so NOT sure what is going on.

NOw I have to manually drag and MOVE them back to where they were, but it is impossible to drag from Pg 3 of product variation to Pg1 of Product variation.

So now I’m totally baffled about WHY it is doing this.

I don’t normally have this many Variations for a client site for 1 particular product but I have to do it for this client.

Is there something else I can do to fix this issue please?

    Thanks in advance

    Regards

    Kristin

    Hello @kristinubute,

    Thank you for reaching out!

Sorry, but I’m not sure if I get the full picture, could you please attach some screenshots that illustrate what you’re trying to achieve?

If you don’t already have a screenshot service installed, here are a few free options:

Look forward to hearing back from you.

    HI

I have a spreadsheet that I entered in ALL Variations in Order of the spreadsheet (based on Thickness first, THEN Width, THEN Roll Size, Then Colour) all in a particular order so ALL the Thickness of 0.6mm shows first, then the 30mm width next, then 100m roll size.

Then the next I added was still 0.6mm thickness, then 40mm width etc

Then the next was same thickness, and 50mm width

Then the next was same thickness and 60mm width

Then the next was 0.8mm thickness, and 30mm width and 100m

So therefore everything was adding in order on the screen. Then AFTER I save, they go OUT OF ORDER which I haven’t seen happen before and VERY frustrating .. as I cannot get them back in order as I have 101 Variations there and 7 pages, and it is TOO hard to MOVE them all back in order.

It took me hours to create it in the first place.

    Here is the link example

    https://snipboard.io/3XhImo.jpg

You will see here that the 1st column width, goes from 0.6mm to 0.8mm and back to 0.6mm

I didn’t enter them in a messy way. I entered in ALL the 0.6mm firstly, with the subsequent variations. Then all the 0.8mm, etc so they would ALL stay in order.

Now they are ALL messed up after I saved it.

It may look minor on this screenshot, but as I have 7 pages of this and other pages have 6 or 7 out of order. Therefore I cannot drag and item on p6 to p4 easily as I’ve always found that to be impossible?

Unless there is an easy way to drag between all 7 pages of this product Variations so I can put them back in order?

Or is the system somehow grouping them in a strange way for some reason. It should stay as the order I inputted them in in order to keep it nice and neat and manageable.

How can I easily rectify this as its proving to be frustrating.

    Thanks in advance

Any thoughts as to WHY they are going out of order compared to how I added them in order. They are NOT staying in the order I had entered which was the Order of THICKNESS first, then WIDTH, etc.

Bit frustrating and I DON’T know how to stop it ?

    OR how to fix it?

Is there a setting for that product somewhere to stop it from happening?

Then for me to fix it in the “EDIT PRODUCT” / Variations, HOW do I move a Variation from Pg4 to Pg3 easily as you can’t just drag it to Pg3 that I can see, I’ve tried this before. I’ve quite a few who have gone to Pg4 and needs to be on P2 or P1 now as they are now out of order.

I need to fix this urgently for client but completely stuck as each time I move and then save. They change! Very very frustrating.

    Thanks

Hi, can you offer any thoughts on how to fix the order of the Variations for this particular product and WHY they are going out of order. I need to be able to drag some items from Pg 7 to Pg2 as they moved out of order after I saved it after entering heaps (we have over 100 variations for 1 product).

Woocommerce/Wordpress is never easy to just drag Product Variations into a particular order (especially when many variations for 1 product on many pages).

It’s been a week since someone responded so I’m hoping someone can help and offer some advice please?

I need to resolve the issue for this client.

    Thanks

    Hi @kristinubute

Based on your explanation, it looks like the issue lies with the way WooCommerce is saving and displaying the variations. WooCommerce typically saves variations in the order they were created, not necessarily in the order they’re displayed on the edit product screen.

To rearrange the variations, you could use the “Sort Variations” option found on the “Variations” tab of the product data metabox. However, this might be laborious, with many variations across multiple pages.

I suggest you check out this article I found on Google for a more detailed explanation: https://www.webfulcreations.com/how-to-sort-attributes-in-woocommerce-for-variable-products/

However, please note that dragging items from one page to another in the variations list is currently not supported in WooCommerce. If you need to move a variation from one page to another, you would need to delete and re-add it in the desired order.

As for why the variations are going out of order, it could be due to many reasons, such as a plugin conflict, a theme conflict, or a database issue. I would suggest testing with all other plugins deactivated and with a default theme like Storefront to rule out any conflicts.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting a developer or hiring a professional through our customizations page.

I hope this provides some clarity on the matter. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.
