Adding italics to excerpt

    If I compose an excerpt specifically in Yoast, is there a way to add italics to it? We mention book titles in the excerpt and would like to italicize them. Yoast seems to strip out any italic tags we add.

    Hi,

    Could you please clarify how you are modifying the excerpt? Do you mean any kind of excerpt field in the Yoast SEO meta box? Could you provide us with a screenshot of which particular field you are trying to edit?

    Or do you mean the default WordPress excerpt in the sidebar when editing a post?

    We managed to get the italics to appear here using the Advanced Excerpts plugin, which permits html tags in excerpts.

    We added the following in the Yoast metadescription field:
    We review <i>Growing yourself up</i> and <i>The book you wish your parents had read</i>, which help you experience a more emotional connection to your family.

    However, when we save it, the italics tags are stripped out and when the page reloads, they aren’t there anymore.

    @nbh707 The meta description tag is not something that is displayed visually on a page, so you can’t use HTML formatting within it’s content. The meta description is only contained within the source code with the <head> section of a page, not the <body> (what a user sees on a page).

    The only place a meta description is seen visually would be in Google search results, but in that context it would only use the text content of the meta description.
