  • 1. Why do you use the Links Manager to add links to your Pages?
there is a template tag that lists the Pages:

    2. [I’ll leave it for others]

to be honest, that’s because i’m new to wordpress and i’m still figuring out the different idiosyncrasies…being a newbie and looking at the links manager, i came to the conclusion this was THE way, or at least the best way, to add links…so what purpose does the links mgr serve then?

plus, i hope someone has a suggestion on #2, cause that’s my biggest concern right now. ??

The Link Manager is for external links.
I have no idea what theme are you using but in any decent theme the template tag I linked to above – should be in the sidebar code and displaying all your Pages.

    2. Search. I don’t use any gallery script with WP, but there are tons of posts about integrating different galeery scripts with WP.

i’ll have a look at sidebar.php again and see if this is in there…as far as link mgr is concerned, why is there an option to select “another web address of mine”? that definitely made me think i should add links this way…

    2) i did search but i think mine is a little more specific than the results i’ve found…i’d like tips for the best way to incorporate the three: lightbox, gallery and wpg2. maybe it doesn’t matter the order i do things, i don’t know, just looking for tips…

    thanks

moshu: took a look at my sidebar.php file and it uses the get_links(); call and not wp_list_pages();. it is from here that it pulls from the link mgr….should i use the wp_list_pages() instead?

to clarify, i’m wanting to put links on my menu to somewhat static info – resume, contact page, faq, etc and not to posts or things that will continuously grow.

If that “static” thing is Pages… then you should use the wp_list_pages. Read about it at the link above.
When in WP lingo we write Pages (with capital P) that means Pages ??

The “another web address of mine” is for when you link to another website that you own. For example, I have a business and personal site on seperate domains so it would come in useful for that.

If you want to add links to your theme to allow visitors to navigate to a CV or other static content you could add a Page with that information on it or add the link somewhere in your sidebar file. Have a look at https://www.havantconservatives.com – I did a few static pages for them – is that the kind of thing you were looking for?

    moshu and mikerouse:
thanks for the info..i may look for a different theme since it may have other “bugs” like this…or i may try and figure them all out myself. ??

    thanks for helping a n00b…
