• Hello!

Before I tell you my problem — please let me share that I am not a very techy person, so I ask that you please explain any terms that you use, because I probably won’t know them. I am learning a lot about how this works. I really appreciate your time. ??

I downloaded WP into my new website and that went fine. Then I wanted a new template, got one and loaded that according to directions — it said to load it into CPanel in the html-public file under wp-content-themes file. Did that. Extracted the file, saw the file and it was there.

Then the directions said to go to word press and to look under Presentations to see the new template selection — well it does not appear there. I am completely clueless as to why this is happening. Any suggestions? I thank you so much for your time, look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

    Wrong.
public_html and wp-content are folders or directories – not files!
And no, you do NOT put stuff “into cPanel” – you upload files and folders to your server space/
Use a normal FTP client (software) like Filezilla.
When you download a theme – unzip it on your computer. Then upload the whole folder (e.g. the default Kubrick theme is in a folder named “default”) under the wp-content/themes/ folder. Each theme should reside in its own separate folder.

    Hello,

How do I download the file using Filezilla? How do I get the file from Filezilla onto WordPress — or onto my cPanel? Thanks for your time.

Okay, thank you — I unzipped the folder, then I opened Filezilla and downloaded it onto the site — into the same folder or directory (whatever you call it…) where the other themes live. It STILL does not show up as an option when I’m looking at WordPress. I am very confused….. what next?!? ??

FileZilla is a program that you download and install on your local PC. Then once that is installed you use FileZilla to connect to your host and upload files.

Hi Michael, Thanks, that’s what I did — and now the files are on my cPanel, they are unzipped and should be ready to go — except they are NOT. I don’t understand why Word Press is not reading the files or recognizing them or whatever you want to call it. Its like the files aren’t there or something.

I called my host support about this and they told me to deal with Word Press. Any ideas? ??

Also, assuming that your domain is the ‘main’ domain (usually shown on your cPanel page at the top), then the folder you would upload a theme would be the /public_html/wp-content/themes folder.

    Hi Michael,

No I have TWO websites, this is for the SECOND website…could that be the difference here? Sigh…. ??

The file is in the right place, exactly where you say it should be. My primary website is https://www.fundraisingideastoolbox.com and my new website is https://www.healthyschoolfundraising.com. So this is for https://www.healthyschoolfundraising.com.

Okay, now I checked the https://www.fundraisingideastoolbox.com website — and all of the templates are loaded there. So how can I get the templates loaded into https://www.healthyschoolfundraising.com? I don’t know what to do! ?? Thanks for your help! ?? Abby

Well if I got it right, in cPanel, healthyschoolfundraising.com is considered an Add-on domain and that Add-on domain points to some folder in public_html that acts as the web-root folder for that domain.

So let’s say the folder is called healthyschoolfundraising so look for /public_html/healthyschoolfundraising/wp-content/themes.

If that is not clear (or correct), please ask your host for the web-root folder for that domain.
