• Hello, I’m working on a project that needs separate pages for new items and best sellers and can’t figure out (have used google and search on here) how to do it.

I’ve tried adding the shortcodes to pages but that loses most of my themes styling (ie keeps the colours but loses the layout, borders and buttons) and I can’t figure out which files I need to add to my theme to override this.

The other thing I tried was to add a slider but that just didn’t look right at all although it did retain all of the themes styling.

Can anyone offer any help of where to start with this please?

    Best regards,
    Angela

  • Please post the url of a page that is using shortcodes.

Thank you Lorro, I’ve just noticed another problem with it too, there are no clickable links to the products outputted on the page, I don’t know if this is down to the theme though so I have sent a support request to them too.

Please could you delete any cached items and either turn off caching or deactivate your cache plugin for the time being.

Please post the shortcode you are using for that page.

    Thank you Lorro,

This is the shortcode I used:
    [recent_products per_page=”16″ columns=”4″ orderby=”date” order=”DESC”]

I’ve disabled Zencache and gzip compression now.

    Best regards

I’ve tried that shortcode in my dev site and the markup that its producing is quite different, so it looks like your theme has its own code to generate the product blocks. As you are using a custom theme, www.ads-software.com forum members don’t have access to your theme code.

It may be possible to use some custom css to adjust the appearance of the product blocks, but that can’t put the add-to-cart or select-options buttons back in. You will need to refer that problem to your theme developer.

Otherwise you could try the [products] shortcode, or put new items in a “new_products” category, then use the [category] shortcode, but I suspect the results will be the same.

Thank you for looking into it Lorro, I’m trying out Themler to create a custom theme, up until now I have been very happy with it. I can confirm that it is the Themler generated theme that is causing the problem as I’ve just tried the shortcode on some of my other sites and they are fine.

I’ve asked for support to check it out on their forum but they are very slow in their support so I might have to re start the theme from scratch, not something I’m looking forward too as I was enjoying having such fine control over all the look and feel of it.

I wish Woocommerce would include an easier way to implement best sellers, sale items and new products pages, I can’t leave it to the client to implement adding and removing them to different categories as she is just learning how to add items and it’s a bit confusing for novices.

Thank you for taking the time to check it out for me,
    Angela
