    Hello everyone,

I’ve been playing around with the Plugins > Add New feature in v.2.7 and not having a lot of luck with it. I have tried it on three different blogs.

One, which is hosted on webmasters.com asks me for a FTP password and since it is an added subdomain I don’t want to mess too heavily with the pathing that might be involved to get it to install correctly. I don’t think the client has an FTP login that addresses that folder directly.

The other two are hosted on Lunarpages. On both of those I get this message, whether trying to search & install or download and install from the hard drive:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class pclzip in /home/feefi0/public_html/news/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 171

Of course I know how to FTP and activate plugins, but I am trying to write a bit of a guide for my clients so that they can use the automated features.

In the same regard, I’d like to recommend the Theme Test Drive plugin by Vladimir Prelovac because it allows you to enter the URL of the zip file for a theme and simply click a button to install it. Then you can choose that theme from the drop-down menu and click Enable Theme Test Drive, then visit your site while still logged in as an admin, and you will see your site with that theme. Of course if you want to use the new theme, you still have to activate it, but that’s all you have to do. It works very nicely and helps automate the process of downloading and installing a theme. I hope that helps some of you.

Thanks everybody for any insight on the Plugins > Add new thing, and happy blogging!

    Skipper

  • I get the same error when trying to add plugins. My FTP won’t let me add new plugins either now…

Which FTP client are you using? What do you mean when you say it “won’t let you”? Are you not connecting to the server at all? Are you uploading the plugin to your server but WordPress is not recognizing it? Please be more specific.

It seems like the answer to my original post is Plugin Central by Vladomir Prelovac.
