Adding product categories to my store front

Hi Folks,
I had my website professionally built and now I am learning how to add, amend etc. myself
My current conundrum is how to add a new product category and an amended one to my store front.
I went into ‘add category’ and added the ‘vintage category’ and I amended what was ”spring category’ into ‘nautical category’ quite easily.
However. on my store front, my newly amended nautical is still showing as ‘spring’ and vintage isn’t there.
I some how ended up (on the store front) just below the search bar with ‘products’ and 3 of my different categories. This was not quite what I wanted to achieve.
I hope that this question makes sense?
