Adding Sidebar to blog page

Hi,
I’d like to add the sidebar widget to just my blog page on my website, not on every page.

I know to first change settings> reading >blog page to another page which allows me to edit the blog page.

I then made the blog page two columns and then added the sidebar widget as the right column. It does show the sidebar on the second column.
But when I changed the blog page back to blog, the second column and sidebar doesn’t show. Just the blog post.

I’m either not adding the sidebar the correct way or that there is an easy trick to get this to work.
