We would like to include a username / @mention within the Blog2Social template for some networks.

We do not want to add the @mention to the Title/Excerpt etc on the front end because it will look ugly (and also does not apply to all social networks).

    How would we do this?

Is it possible without any modification? Or could be create Custom Fields for the social network and pull them in?

    Thanks

    Hello @phirefly,
Thank you for reaching out. It would be awesome if you could explain your idea with @mentions and a custom field a bit more detailed. Do you plan to insert the same @mention on every post or do you plan to fill the custom field with entries from a list or a database? Currently a fixed @mention can be added to a “network post-template” without the need to have that @mention in your WordPress post itself.

I am looking for you reply.

Each post would have a different @username

In my situation it is for business profiles – ie. if post is about a certain business then I want to add eg their Facebook @username ….then, when that post is shared on Facebook, the Network Template would insert the @username to ‘mention’ them.

You could do similar with eg Twitter etc.

I guess other people could use it for their authors or other subject matter talked about within their post eg. if they are reviewing a music artist.

    Thanks

    Hello @phirefly

Thanks for reaching out. Currently only a static @mention can be inserted to a specific “Network-template”. This @mention does not need to be displayed inside the WordPress post or page. The @mention will be added when you post your content to a social media network you created a template for. The following step-by-step guide will show you in detail how to create a social media template in Blog2Social: https://www.blog2social.com/en/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=4&id=152&artlang=en

This solution is working network specific and will work with Twitter and Instagram.

We are very pleased that you are thinking about using Blog2Social. So thank you for your suggestions for improvement or wishes about extending the handle support for further networks. I will gladly add them to our development list.

Your feedback helps us to continuously develop Blog2Social. The more often a function is requested, the sooner we can implement it. So if you have further suggestions for improvement or feature requests at a later time, we would be very happy to hear from you.

As soon as we know if and in which version we can implement your suggestions, we will let you know.

Please let me know if this solution is working for you. I am looking forward to your reply.

    – Thanks for information. The plugin is working & I understand how the templates work, however regarding the @username related to post; this is not a solution for me as it is a static text fixed within the template….and we are looking to pull in a variable {@username} from post eg meta/custom field.

I will continue to watch this post incase a solution becomes available.

    Many Thanks

    Hello @phirefly,
Thank you so much for your understanding and your patience.
Since you are trying to accomplish something custom with the “network-templates” I might have a solution for you but it is required to add a hook to add or manipulate code. With this hook you can add your custom code to your theme’s functions.php file.

You need to create a custom function that uses this hook “b2s_filter_wp_user_post_author_display_name” so it would be possible to overwrite the value with the “@mention” you want to store in a custom field.

We have a detailed guide about “Blog2Social Hooks: Filters & Actions”
you can find it by following this link: “https://www.blog2social.com/en/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=13&id=157&artlang=en”

Please let me know if this solution works for you.

Thanks for the help – however I have just discovered that when Blog2Social sends an “@something” to Facebook page, Facebook does not recognise it as a mention & connect it.

I guess this is maybe impossible (sending @mentions to Facebook)?

    Hello @phirefly,
Thank you so much for reaching out again. Adding @mentions to a “Network-template” is currently working for Instagram and Twitter. This option is network-specific. Rest assured that I will gladly add your suggestion “To be able to use @mentions for Facebook posts” to our feature list for future developments. If we can implement the desired feature in a future update, we will notify you. Thank you so much for your suggestion. Your feedback helps us to continuously develop and improve Blog2Social.

If you require any further information, feel free to get back to us at any time.
