• I want to add text lines into the source of my page so that it will be optimized for search engines to pick up when looking for key words. Can I do this with WordPress? Is the actual code beyond my control and out of my reach. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • 1. keyword “tricks” to get search engines to pay attention don’t work.
    2. I think you are talking about meta tags, which do work: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Meta_Tags_in_WordPress
    3. There are some plugins available which will also help you add keywords back into your meta tags, which should be in that article, too, or look at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Plugins

WordPress works so well out of the box with search engines that I wouldn’t mess with adding anything that might be even remotely considered spammy. I don’t even mess with custom permalinks and I get great results. Put out good content, updated regularly and work to crosslink with other relevant sites.

And by the way, adding your site link to your user profile gets you a spiderable link every time you ask a question, fwiw.
