i am new here and know nothing bout CSS and html having said that i would like to know how can i add navigation tabs on my page i tried to read some older post but got lost and confused in the end.

i am currently using “arjuna x” as my theme and have figured out that i can just add pages to add tabs, unfortunately i dont know how i can add post on each tab i created – i tried and it keeps posting on my HOME tab when i want it to be part of my blog tab.
so i thought i can just rename my “home” tab as “blog” but i cannot find the place where i can edit “home” tab.

i hope i am making some sense here as i honestly dont know how to explain exactly what i need.
all i know is that i need to know how i can add tab and properly post on each tab.
i only want 4 tabs (about, blog, photos and videos).

    any help is highly appreciated.

    thanks a lot!

  • If you only want new posts to show on your ‘Blog’ tab:

    • Create a Page named ‘Home’ for your static front page.
    • Create a Page named ‘Blog’ for your blog page.
    • Go to Admin->Settings->Reading, and click ‘Front page displays – A static page.
    • Select ‘Home’ in the dropdown for ‘Front page:’.
    • Select ‘Blog’ in the dropdown for ‘Posts page:’.

If you have other pages that you want to show particular posts, you can create categories and have pages for each category as described here.

    hi,

thank you for your help, i followed all the instructions you give and it works great – exactly what i needed but i am having a hardtime figuring out (mostly understanding) why the post intended to be in “blog” tab goes to “photos” and “video” tabs as well.

im sure i am doing something wrong on the way i add post or maybe i am missing something.
here is my site that i am trying to make it work myfroject.com to give you an idea what i am doing wrong.
    appreciate all the help.

For the links under ‘photos’ and ‘video’, you have cat=cat_name. It should be cat=cat_ID. Use the category ID number instead of the category name, or else make the parameter category_name=cat_name.

i tried to understand your suggestion and luckily it works so the blog post wont be part of the other tab. Unfortunately, i cannot add new post to the tab (photos, videos) i made unless i will edit it whenever i post a new one which for me doesnt make any sense.

i tried to see what i am missing still but whenever i try to post a new entry it doesnt give me an option which tab it should be posted so it keeps going as a new post on my “blog” tab.

i read some post in the forum but none of them is making sense to me and i am sorry that i am asking way too much.
i changed the theme coz some suggested it works that way but i still dont see how i can post a new entry on “photos” and “videos” tab – i can edit it but cannot post a new entry.

    thanks

First, install and activate the Page Links To plugin.

The instructions are a little vague, but here is how to make the Video page link to the Video category:

Now, we will create a category called ‘Video’ and get its ID number.

    1. Go to Admin->Posts->Categories.
    2. Enter ‘Video’ in the Category Name box.
    3. Enter a short description in the Description box.
    4. Click ‘Add Category’.
    5. Hover the mouse over the new Video category name in the right panel.
    6. Get the cat_ID number from the browser status bar at the bottom of the screen.

Next, we will edit the ‘Video’ page and make it show the ‘Video’ category.

    1. Go to Admin->Pages->Edit and click Edit under the Video page.
    2. Scroll down to the ‘Page Links To’ section at the bottom.
    3. In the ‘Point to this URL’ box, enter ‘https://yoursiteurl/?cat=14’, replacing yoursiteurl with your own URL, and 14 with the video category id.
    4. Click ‘Update Page’.

To have a post show up on the Video page, just make sure the ‘Video’ category box is checked in the ‘Categories’ box before you Publish or Update the post.
