AddThis produces invalid markup, removing the closing tag

When calling the_excerpt() AddThis strips the closing </p> tag from the excerpt.
With AddThis disabled the excerpt is output correctly, including the closing </p> tag.
With AddThis enabled it outputs invalid markup (and potentially causes the layout issues others have reported, as a result).
